Weekends in Lugano

I've spent the last two weekends staying in Lugano, Switzerland and making day trips. Figured it was a great way to save money and get to see more of Switzerland!

Last weekend (March 22-24), me and four other girls stayed in Lugano. We did day trips to Bellinzona, Locarno (Lake Maggiore), and Lake Como, Italy.

Bellinzona is an awesome spot only about 20 minutes away from Lugano that has three big castles.

Bellinzona

We had an awesome day in Locarno because the weather was awesome. It was sunny and we were able to just walk around and check out the area. We did some shopping and ate at a nice restaurant outside in the sun.

Locarno

Lake Como was a great place for shopping. It was filled with markets filled with everything you could imagine!

We stayed back in Lugano on Sunday to have a relaxing day. I realized this was the VERY first day that I have been able to sleep in and not set an alarm clock. How crazy! So of course I took advantage and then relaxed and caught up on things I don't have time to do during the week.

This past weekend (March 29-31), almost everybody stayed in Lugano. Only about 10 out of the 50 people traveled somewhere. Me and a bunch of people were actually supposed to go to the Amalfi Coast, but since it was Easter weekend all the trains were booked. Literally all of them. We had no way to get there! But it ended up being a blessing in disguise because we had a really nice weekend back at home with everyone.

Thursday night a bunch of us went out together to the local bar, Coyote Ugly. On Friday, we walked around in Lugano because it was beautiful out and there were Easter markets set up. We walked through the markets for a while until we decided we wanted to head to Milan, Italy for the evening... casual. I still laugh at my life. At home I'm like okay I'm gonna head to Reston for dinner and here I'm like I'm hungry for some good Italian lets hop on a train and go to Milan. Which is exactly what we did. It was our friend's birthday so a bunch of us went to get an aperitivo dinner. These are really awesome. All you do is pay for a drink (they have so many delicious drink options), which is usually around 9 euro, and then you get all you can eat food along with it. They set up a buffet bar with a crazy assortment of food (vegetables, meat, pasta, chips and salsa, french fries, potatoes, bread, etc.) and then change some of the food options every few minutes. You can sit there for as long as you like and eat as much food as you want and continue to order drinks! It's a really fun atmosphere with delicious food and drinks.

Milan

We were planning on going back to Lake Como on Saturday (it's only 30 minutes away from us), but we woke up and looked outside and realized it was pouring out. So instead we had a Montarina rainy day! All of us stayed in and just hung out, played board games, watched movies, etc. It was nice to have a day like that.

On Sunday, I had an amazing Easter. We had the BEST weather we have had yet in Lugano which made it 10x better. About 10 of us went to church in the morning, we found an English-speaking one which was awesome! I felt like I was at home, except the service was a little different with music coming from Christian CDs and what sounded like a Kids Bop CD. I enjoyed it. Afterwards, we headed straight back home to get out of our church clothes and into our comfy clothes to go paddle boating! It was absolutely perfect. We rented them for an hour, and the sun was shining and it was warm and the lake looked beautiful. Once we finished paddle boating, we headed back to the Montarina to relax and lay by the pool. We have a gorgeous view of the Swiss Alps and palm trees... funny combination but makes for a great scene. Then a bunch of us headed out to a nice dinner at a restaurant that overlooks the mountains and the lake. I ended my Easter by relaxing and watching a movie in bed, doesn't get much better than that!

I'm sitting here writing this on Wednesday, April 3, and about to start getting ready to leave for my final 10-day trip tomorrow! I actually had my very last class as a junior in college today. EW. Had a test and a group presentation and then I was done! When we get back from our 10-day trip, we will be working on our field study/internship. So we will still be doing work, just not "class." I'm glad that classes are over, but being a senior is scary. I'm not ready for college to end! I'm super excited to be a senior, but I just want to stay a senior forever.
